Chocolate Smile

Ahhh…some well needed me time!

I walked through the precinct in search of the nearest coffee shop to sit down for half an hour with a coffee and just have some time out. As I turned the corner I noticed a couple sat in the window of the coffee shop. The lady was wiping the tears from her cheeks with a well used tissue and the gentleman doing his best to be there for her. Our eyes met and I gave a half smile wondering what could of broke her heart that much. I walked to the desk and ordered a summer berry smoothy whilst my mind wondered the isles of the shopping precinct in search of some kind of flower shop where I could buy the lady a bouquet. But there was none. Then out of the corner of my eye I spotted a gift that makes any woman smile….a huge wedge of sticky chocolate cake!

“Can you keep a secret?” I asked the coffee boy. “Yes” He replied in his best broken English. “In 5 minutes time I want you to plate up the biggest wedge and give it to the lady at the window crying. But you can’t tell her who’s bought it! Okay?” He nodded. “That’s not all,“ I said. “I need you to put this card on the plate and tell her someone wanted to make her smile – you got it?” I handed him a Ilovemygen card, paid for the smoothy and cake and then went and sat at the entrance with my back to the couple reading my book.

Five minutes later I gave the coffee boy the nod and saw him plate up the cake with the card and take it over. I didn’t look and was sat too far away to hear what was happening but I could hear behind me a muffle of different voices. I might not be able to take her tears away I thought but I knew I made her smile.
